Karis & Joel's Engagement Session on Lummi Island, Washington

July 18, 2017 , Engagements

Who: Karis and Joel

What: Engagement Session

When: Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Where: Beachfront Victorian farmhouse on Lummi Island

Karis and Joel met me for their engagement photos at their family’s old Victorian farmhouse on Lummi Island. They’re also having their wedding there so I appreciated the chance to explore the property with them for photos and chat about the wedding.

Their ceremony will be on a flat grassy spot right in front of this beautiful beach with incredible views of the San Juan Islands.

The walkway from the road up to the farmhouse passes under a beautiful archway with roses and other flowers. The path itself is lined with lavender bushes. The bushes weren’t blooming when we were there in June but I’m crossing my fingers they’ll be full of purple for their wedding.

Joel’s family has been renovating the old Victorian farmhouse for several years and are making a final push in the weeks (and days!) leading up to the wedding. Joel had even spent the day of our session working… and was going to get back to work right after.

Old farms like this one remind me of growing up in Wisconsin and the time I spent on my grandparents’ farm. Karis and Joel showed me how they’ve blended old relics of the farm with new landscaping and gardens.

As the sun dropped lower toward the horizon it cast a beautiful golden light and long shadows across the property. What a wonderful summer evening!

Thanks, Karis and Joel. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in July!
